El Convento Franciscano de la Madre de Dios es un elemento histórico perteneciente a la Villa de Torrelaguna. Se encuentra fuera del recinto amurallado y fue un edificio de gran influencia para su entorno.
Las espadaña es uno de los elementos característicos del perfil de la Villa, visible casi desde cualquier punto de ésta.
Actualmente el convento se encuentra en ruinas, conservándose unicamente la cabecera, la espadaña y el muro lateral de la nave con unos magníficos arcos. A partir de la planta histórica se pretende recuperar la esencia del monumento reconstruyendo la nave principal de la iglesia y tres pandas del claustro. No ha sido posible avanzar más en la reconstrucción debido al entorno urbano consolidado que existe alrededor de la ruina.
Se han puesto en valor los muros que quedan en pie, sobretodo el que alberga los arcos, recuperando éstos, ya que hoy en día están cegados.
Partiendo de la altura existente se hace una reinterpretación de las cubiertas de madera a dos aguas mediante una cubierta casi plana, sin entrar a definir las bovedas pero a su vez sin comprometer lo existente.
Se ha introducido un uso cultural (residencia de estudiantes) acorde con la tipología, favoreciendo así la recuperación de la presencia urbana del Convento.
The Franciscan Monastery of the Mother of God is an historical element located in the town of Torrelaguna. It is outside the city walls and was a building of great influence to the town's environment.
The steeple is one of Torrelaguna's skyline most characteristic elements. It is visible almost anywhere around the town.
The convent is in ruins, remaining only the header, the steeple and the side wall of the nave. This side wall has some magnificent arches.
The idea is to recover the essence of the monument. I use the ancient plan, found in the archive, and I rebuild the church's nave and three of the cloister's sides. It has not been possible to make further progress in the reconstruction due to the consolidated urban environment that exists around the ruin.
I have valued the walls which are still standing, especially the one that with the arches, recovering them, since today they are blinded.
I propose a reinterpretation of wood roofs, based on the height of the remaining walls. This is solved by an almost flat roof with no vaults on the inside but at the same time without compromising the existing parts.
I have suggested a cultural use (students' dorm) according to the building's typology. With this idea I hope it can help with the recovery of the urban presence of the Convent.
